ZTE Axon M in three keys: the mobile that wants to mark the way of the industry

ZTE seems to want to go free in the global smartphone market. It has not yet joined the trend to eliminate almost completely from the front of the mobile frames and when the concepts that we have seen so far from flexible screens were thin screens that could even be rolled and put into the pocket, we present the ZTE Axon M, a mobile more than flexible foldable, two-screen.

That is the path that creates the Chinese brand that should travel the market, mobile with two screens that when deployed can reach the size of a tablet. An idea less original, although we have seen a phone with that concept for years, which is accompanied by high-end hardware. Let us know the details of this ZTE Axon M in three keys.

The double screen and its uses

Without a doubt, the first key that we have to deal with when talking about the ZTE Axon M is its double screen. The idea that wants to transmit or enhance the brand is that they offer us two in one: a tablet (by screen size) when the mobile is deployed and a mobile when folded, although its thickness, more than a centimeter, will make us feel something more than a mobile to use in the pocket.

And why do we want two screens? ZTE has transmitted four possible uses , each with its own mode:

    • Dual mode: a mode in which we can have an application on each screen working simultaneously, for example, to see a series in one and attend the mail in another.
    • Extended Mode: Both screens are used for a single application, with a full-surface image of 6.7 inches.
    • Mirror mode: Both screens reproduce the same content so that a large group (we imagine, for example, put it on a table with each screen facing one side) can see at the same time.
    • Traditional mode: folding, to use it as if it were a normal mobile.

The modes offered may be useful in certain circumstances, although we remain (for now) with the question of how the screens will be exploited in the extended mode, by the need to adapt the applications to a resolution or relationship so strange. Besides the biggest doubt is, do we need these modes enough to sacrifice something as critical as the thickness of the mobile? It does not look like it’s going to be the most comfortable to wear.

A single camera, because you can rotate it

If the screen that has the camera can change position without we lose sight of it … why put two cameras? They have thought of ZTE, opting to put a good, apparently at least, main camera that acts as a front camera , an idea that reminds us of past models, such as the Oppo N1 (although in its case the only thing that turned was the camera).

The bet for a single camera, which can be used perfectly for selfies, is risky but can go well

I note that the decision of ZTE may be correct, although it will be necessary to see how comfortable it is to deal with that frontal camera in a position to which we are not accustomed. The camera has 20 megapixels, aperture f / 1.8, PDAF, dual LED flash and also allows to record video in 4K at 30 frames per second and slow motion, 720p at 240 frames per second. We can also support multiple automatic modes for different scenes so that said, a different idea but that can come out very well.

A Snapdragon 821 at this point?

The ZTE Axon M is undoubtedly a high-end smartphone, which does not compete directly against the best classics because its idea is different, and for that it has specifications to the height, such as the mentioned camera, four gigabytes of RAM or 64 GB internal memory. What has caught our attention is that we have the Snapdragon 821 , a high-end processor of 2016, for a smartphone that will hit stores by the end of 2017.

It is not a bad processor the Snapdragon 821, but at this point has become something “old” already

Already questioned in part that LG used it in its G6 when its direct rivals were announcing mobile with the Snapdragon 835, reason why more is going to question this decision more than half a year later. Remarkable although it does not have to suppose a slab, because the Snapdragon 821 is still a great processor. But will remain on the table the doubt of if it will be sufficient for the multitasking that raises ZTE with the two screens.

ZTE Axon M Versions and Prices

The ZTE Axon M will arrive first in the United States thanks to an exclusive agreement with the operator AT & T. Later it will be heading for Japan and China, while in Europe and India will not be arriving until 2018 and it seems that it will not be launched in Latin America. Of the price we have not been able to know details, although we expect it above 600 euros.
